Γιατί ο αδελφός μας είναι η ζωή μας....

Οι προσπάθειες της Ιεράς Μητροπόλεως Χονγκ Κονγκ, μετά την καταστροφή των χωρών της νοτιοανατολικής Ασίας από τό τσουνάμι, εστιάζονται στην περιοχή Άντζε, που βρίσκεται στο βόρειο μέρος της Σουμάτρας, στην Ινδονησία. Ο πληθυσμός είναι 4.000.000 κάτοικοι και μέχρι τό φονικό σεισμό ήταν αδύνατη η πρόσβαση σε ξένους λόγω του έντονου φανατισμού και του εμφυλίου πολέμου που βρίσκεται σε εξέλιξη τα τελευταία χρόνια.
Από τη σεισμική δόνηση και ό,τι επακολούθησε έχασαν τη ζωή τους 95.000 άτομα αριθμός που πολλοί εικάζουν πως θα ανέβει στους 150.000 αφού η ανεύρεση των πτωμάτων είναι ιδιαίτερα δύσκολη. Ένα εκατομμύριο άτομα έχασαν τα σπίτια τους ενώ περισσότεροι από 750.000 αναζητούν καθημερινά φαγητό. Ο μεγαλύτερος φόβος είναι οι επιδημίες αφού οι άταφοι σωροί που βρίσκονται διάσπαρτοι στην περιοχή είναι σε κατάσταση προχωρημένης σήψης και οι τοπικές θερμοκρασίες με τις οσμές κάνουν την ατμόσφαιρα ασφυκτική και επικίνδυνη για όλους. Why our brother is our life...

In the aftermath of the destruction caused by the tsunami in the countries of Southeast Asia, the endeavours of the Holy Metropolis of Hong Kong are now being focused on the area of Aceh, which is at the northern end of Sumatra, Indonesia. Its population is around 4 million citizens, and up until the killer earthquake struck the area, it was impossible for foreigners to visit it, on account of the extreme fanaticism and civil war that has been raging there during recent years.
Around 95.000 people lost their lives because of the earthquake's tremor and whatever else ensued, while many are estimating that the death toll will reach 150.000, since the locating of corpses is especially difficult. One million people have lost their homes, and more than 750.000 are daily in search of food. Their greatest fear is the spreading of epidemics, since the unburied corpses that lay scattered in the area are now in a state of advanced putrefaction and local temperatures combined with the pungent odors are making the atmosphere suffocating and dangerous for everyone.
