Εξαντλημένο από χρόνια, εκδόθηκε αυτές τις μέρες σε τρίτη έκδοση (επηυξημένη και βελτιωμένη, με βυζαντινή εικονογράφηση Κόντογλου και Φεργαδιώτη), το βιβλίο του ομοτίμου Καθηγητού της Θεολογικής Σχολής του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών κ. Π.Β. Πάσχου, με τον τίτλο "Αγωνία και Κατάνυξη, Επιλογή δοκιμίων ορθοδόξου στοχασμού".

Χωρίζεται σε δύο Μέρη και ένα Επίμετρο: το Α´ περιέχει δοκίμια με τομές σε αγωνιώδη προβλήματα της εποχής μας, και το Β´ προσεγγίσεις σε κατανυκτικά κείμενα και θέματα της Ορθοδόξου Εκκλησίας. Στο Επίμετρο περιέχονται πέντε κείμενα που μιλούν για σημαντικά πρόσωπα και θέματα της σύγχρονης πνευματικής ζωής. Τα δοκίμια με νεανικό σφρίγος, ρωμαλέα γλώσσα και με το λογοτεχνικό ύφος του γνωστού συγγραφέα, γοητεύουν και ωφελούν πνευματικά τον αναγνώστη, ιδίως την νεότητα, στην οποία και αφιερώνεται.

Τα εικονοστάσια των ελληνικών Εκκλησιών στην Ιταλία,
Ευθαλίας Ρεντετζή

Η ιδέα του βιβλίου γεννήθηκε με την προοπτική να γίνει γνωστή η καλλιτεχνική και ιστορική κληρονομιά των ελληνικών εκκλησιών στην Ιταλία και συγκεκριμένα αυτή των εικονοστασίων τους.

Πρόκειται για θησαυρούς της μεταβυζαντινής τέχνης, στην πλειοψηφία τους άγνωστοι, των οποίων η ιστορική και καλλιτεχνική ανάλυση συνδράμει στην σπουδή της μεταβυζαντινής τέχνης έξω από τον ελληνικό χώρο και μέσα από ένα δημιουργικό στιλιστικό και αισθητικό διάλογο με την ιταλική τέχνη.

Κατόπιν μιας σύντομης παρουσίασης της πορείας της βυζαντινής τέχνης, η οποία κατάφερε να διατηρήσει το θρησκευτικό της χαρακτήρα και μετά την πτώση της Κωνσταντινούπολης, προβάλλεται η καλλιτεχνική και ιστορική εξέλιξη του εικονοστασίου, καθώς και ο πρωταρχικός του ρόλος στον ιερό χώρο του ναού.

Ακολουθεί η ιστορική, αρχιτεκτονική και εικαστική ανάλυση των οκτώ σημαντικότερων ελληνικών εκκλησιών της Ιταλίας, ενώ ιδιαίτερη προσοχή αφιερώνεται στα εικονοστάσια τους. Συγκεκριμένα προβάλλονται οι ναοί: του αγίου Γεωργίου των Ελλήνων στη Βενετία, του αγίου Νικολάου στην Τεργέστη, του Ευαγγελισμού και του Αγίου Πνεύματος στο Λιβόρνο, δύο ναοί σήμερα καταστραμμένοι, του ναού της αγίας Άννας στην Αγκώνα, του οποίου καλλιτεχνική και ιστορική παρουσίαση γίνεται για πρώτη φορά, συνοδευόμενη από ανέκδοτο φωτογραφικό υλικό, της Παναγίας των Αγγέλων στην Βαρλέτα, των αγίων Πέτρου και Παύλου στη Νάπολη και του αγίου Νικολάου στο Λέτσε.

Η εικονογραφική και στιλιστική ανάλυση των εικονοστασίων καθώς και των μεμονωμένων εικόνων δεν είναι στενά αισθητική, μα εντάσσεται στα πλαίσια μιας γενικότερης εξέτασης ιστορικού, εθνικού, πολιτιστικού και θρησκευτικού χαρακτήρα.

Η Θεραπευτική των πνευματικών νοσημάτων- Εισαγωγή
στην ασκητική παράδοση της Ορθοδόξου Εκκλησίας, τομ. Α'

Ο συγγραφέας του έργου Jean Claude Larchet, διδάκτωρ Φιλοσοφίας και Θεολογίας του Πανεπιστημίου του Στρασβούργου, θεωρείται ένας από τους κορυφαίους ορθόδοξους πατρολόγους της Δύσεως, καθώς έχει να επιδείξει πλουσιώτατο συγγραφικό έργο για την πνευματικότητα των Πατέρων της Εκκλησίας, μεταφρασμένο, μάλιστα, σε δώδεκα γλώσσες. Στο παρόν έργο, ο συγγραφέας αντιδιαστέλλει στην θεολογική σκέψη της Δύσεως, η οποία ερμηνεύει το απολυτρωτικό έργο του Χριστού με στενούς δικανικούς όρους, την ευρύτερη πατερική παράδοση της Ορθοδοξίας: ο Χριστός δεν είναι λυτρωτής του ανθρώπου μόνο με την δικανική έννοια της εξαγοράς της αμαρτίας. Οι όροι Λυτρωτής και Σωτήρας ταυτίζονται και το ρήμα «σώζω» σημαίνει επίσης και «θεραπεύω». Γι αυτό οι Πατέρες από τον πρώτο αιώνα απέδωσαν στον Χριστό το προσωνύμιο Ιατρός «των ψυχών και των σωμάτων». Αυτός κομίζει σε κάθε βαπτιζόμενο την θεραπεία στην ασθενούσα ανθρώπινη φύση του. Κάθε χριστιανός για να οικειοποιηθεί την Θεία Χάρη οφείλει να ασκηθεί διάγοντας πνευματική ζωή. Η άσκηση είναι το μέσο θεραπείας και επιστροφής της νοσούσας ανθρώπινης φύσης στην προπτωτική μακαριότητα.

Βίος και Πολιτεία του Οσίου Πατρός ημών Γρηγορίου Επισκόπου Ακράγαντος

Οι Εκδόσεις της Αποστολικής Διακονίας συνεχίζοντας την προσπάθεια να μεταφέρουν στη νεοελληνική γλώσσα Βίους Αγίων από το Αγιολόγιο του μεγαλυτέρου αγιολόγου του 10ου αιώνα, Συμεών του Μεταφραστή, εξέδωσαν τον Βίο του Οσίου Γρηγορίου, Επισκόπου Ακράγαντος. Ο μέγας αυτός Άγιος της Εκκλησίας μας του 6ου αιώνα, με την ευρύτατη θεολογική του κατάρτιση, υπήρξε ακλόνητος στύλος της Ορθοδοξίας, υπόδειγμα υπομονής και συγχωρητικότητας παρά τις συκοφαντίες που αντιμετώπισε, μέτρο πνευματικής ασκητικότητας χάρη στην τετράχρονη παραμονή του σε αναχωρητήριο της Παλαιστίνης. Την απόδοση στην νεοελληνική γλώσσα, την εισαγωγή και τις σημειώσεις επιμελήθηκε ο φιλόλογος και θεολόγος κ. Γεώργιος Παπαδημητρόπουλος.

Μουσική κυψέλη (τόμος Β´),

Η Αποστολική Διακονία της Εκκλησίας της Ελλάδος εξέδωσε και με ιδιαίτερη χαρά κυκλοφορεί, στη Σειρά των έργων του αειμνήστου Πρωτοψάλτου Κωνσταντίνου Πρίγγου, τον Β´ τόμο της «Μουσικής Κυψέλης», που περιλαμβάνει τους ύμνους των εορτών από Σεπτέμβριο μέχρι και Δεκέμβριο.
Την επιμέλεια και του παρόντος τόμου είχε ο μουσικολογιώτατος κ. Γεώργιος Ν. Κωνσταντίνου, ο οποίος με τους συνεργάτες του Κωνσταντίνο Λανάρα και Δημήτριο Παπαδόπουλο προσπάθησαν να κρατήσουν την ίδια «φιλοσοφία» με τους τρείς τόμους που ήδη εκδόθηκαν και κυκλοφορούνται, το «Αναστασιματάριον» την «Αγία και Μεγάλη Εβδομάδα» και την «Μουσική Κυψέλη Α'», οι οποίοι έγιναν ενθουσιωδώς δεκτοί˙ Με το παρόν έργο παραδίδουν ένα χρηστικό εργαλείο του Αναλογίου, άρτιο από κάθε πλευρά.
Στο Β' τόμο της «Μουσικής Κυψέλης» κατέβαλαν προσπάθειες:
•   απαλλαγής του κειμένου από τις ορθογραφικές και λοιπές τυπογραφικές αβλεψίες, που το καθιστούσαν δυσλειτουργικό,
•   παρασημάνσεως των ρυθμικών μέτρων (εκτός από τα σημεία εκείνα που η χρονική αγωγή θέλει χρόνο ουσιαστικά ελεύθερο),
•   τοποθετήσεως των καταλλήλων ισοκρατημάτων ,
• εμπλουτισμού του έργου με διαφορετικές εκδοχές αποδόσεως ύμνων από ηχογραφήσεις του Κωνσταντίνου Πρίγγου που καταγράφονται για πρώτη φορά στο χαρτί (πρόκειται για τους ύμνους που έχουν αρχίγραμμα μπλε χρώματος).
Στο τέλος του τόμου υπάρχει αναλυτικό ευρετήριο των ύμνων.

Agony and devout concentration,

Recently, this book that had been out of print for years was published again. Now in its third edition (that has been augmented and improved and includes Byzantine iconography painted by Kondoglou and Fergadiotis) the book is the work of P.V. Paschos, Professor Emeritus, Athens University School of Theology. It is titled “Agony and Devout Concentration, a Selection of Essays on Orthodox Thought” .
It is divided into two Parts complemented by an Addendum: Part A' contains essays that cut deeply into agonizing problems of our times; Part B' contains approaches to texts of devout concentration and issues of the Orthodox Church. The Addendum contains 5 texts that discuss important personalities and issues of the contemporary, spiritual life. The essays are youthful in vigor, employ a robust language, and are vested with the literary style of their well-known writer. They captivate and benefit their reader spiritually and are primarily addressed to the young to whom the essays are dedicated.

The iconostases of the Greek Churches in Italy,

The idea for the book began with the prospect that the public should become better acquainted with the artistic and historical heritage of the Greek Churches in Italy and their iconostases in particular.
The book entails the treasures of post-Byzantine iconography. In their majority most of these treasures are little known: The study of their historic and artistic value comes to assist research into post-Byzantine art in regions other than Greece through a creative, stylistic, and aesthetic dialogue with Italian art.
The book begins with a brief introduction into the course of Byzantine art which succeeded in maintaining its religious traits even after the fall of Constantinople . Next, the book delves into the artistic and historic development of the iconostasis as well as into the leading role it has played at the development of church altars.
The book continues with the historic, architectural, and art analysis of eight of the most significant Greek churches in Italy with particular attention paid to their iconostases. More specifically, the churches discussed are: St George's of the Hellenes in Venice; St Nikolaos' church in Trieste; the church of Evangelismos (Annunciation) and the church of the Holy Spirit in Livorno, both of which lie in ruins; St Anna's church in Ancona which is discussed for the first time artistically and historically and whose presentation is accompanied by anecdotal photographs; the church of the Virgin Mary of the Angels in Varleta, the church of St Peter and Paul in Naples; and St Nikolaos' church in Lecce.
The analysis of the art and style of the church iconostases along with a discussion entailing individual panel icons is by no means narrow; rather, it becomes part of a broader look into their historical, national, cultural, and religious character.

The Healing of Spiritual Disorders:
An Introduction in the Ascetic Tradition of the Orthodox Church, Vol. A'

Jean Claude Larchet, the writer of this work, is a doctor of Philosophy and Theology at the University of Strasbourg: He is considered one of the foremost patricists of the West something well-substantiated by his prolific writings on the spirituality of the Fathers of the Church and the subsequent translation of his work into no less than 12 languages. In the present book, the writer juxtaposes to the theological thought of the West (which interprets the redeeming work of Christ in narrow, forensic terms), the broader patristic tradition of Orthodoxy: Christ is not the redeemer of man only in the forensic sense of exoneration from sin. In his book, Jean Claude Larchet maintains that the terms “Redeemer” and “Savior” are one and the verb "to save" also connotes "healing". It is because of that connotation that the Fathers of the early years of Christianity attributed to Christ the name Doctor "of souls and bodies", He who conveys the necessary healing to the ailing human nature of those who are baptized. In order to familiarize themselves with Divine Grace, Christians ought to practice asceticism by conducting a spiritual life: An ascetic life is a means of healing but also a means of returning the ailing human nature to the blessed state it enjoyed prior to the Original Sin.

The Life and Work of our Holy Father Gregorios, Bishop of Akragas

This significant Saint of our Church who lived in the 6 th century was an adamant paragon of Orthodoxy and a bastion of patience and forgiveness despite the maliciousness of the sycophants he was confronted with. Owing to his stay at a retreat in Palestine he was also an example of spiritual asceticism. The rendition into Modern Greek, introduction, and annotations were tended to by Mr Georgios Papadimitropoulos, teacher of literature and theology.

Mousike Kypsele (Volume B'),

The Apostolic Diakonia of the Church of Greece has published and is pleased to announce that, in connection with the Series of works by memorable Lead Chanter (Archon Protopsalt), it is now placing in circulation Volume B' of "Mousike Kypsele", which includes the hymns pertinent to holidays from September through December. The present volume has been edited by music expert Mr Georgios N. Konstantinou who, together with his colleagues Messrs Konstantinos Lanaras and Dimitrios Papadopoulos, endeavored to remain faithful to the "spirit" of the three volumes that have already been published and are in circulation: "Anastasimarion", "The Holy Week", and "Mousike Kypsele, Volume A', all of which were received by the public enthusiastically. The intention of the editors of the work was to provide a useful tool for the Analogion, in a most comprehensive and complete form. Thus, in Volume B' of "Mousike Kypsele", they endeavored to:
•   rid the text of all spelling and typographical oversights that may have rendered it awkward to read thus far,
•   denotate the rhythmic structure (with the exception of those points where the tempo marking actually requires a free tempo),
•   placement of the appropriate holding notes (isocratema),
•   enhancement of the work by the addition of a variety of hymn versions recorded by Konstantinos Priggos himself : This is the first time that these versions are printed ( they are distinguished by a drop cap in blue ).
There is an analytical index of the hymns at the very end of the volume.
