The Apostoliki Diakonia of the Church of Greece has issued and released into circulation the book titled «The Holy Relics of Saints of the Eastern Orthodox Church in Venice». This book essentially consists of three separate works:
a. A study by the deacon fr . Enrico Morini , Professor of History and Institutions of the Orthodox Church of the University of Bologna in Italy, titled «Venetian Reliquary Art».
b. A study by Mrs. Chrysa Maltezou , Director of the Greek Institute of Venice, titled «Relics of Saints in the Temple of Saint George of Venice - Nazione Greca and Cose Sacre », and
c. The Books of Saints, included in this edition, and a brief study titled "An outline of the relations between Byzantium and Venice until the 4 th Crusade", by His Eminence the Bishop of Fanarion Agathangelos, General Director of the Apostoliki Diakonia, who also supervised this edition as well as the drafting of the catalogue containing the voluminous bibliography. Many of the photographs in the book were taken by Mr. Basil Nikas .
As outlined in the prologue of the book by His Eminence the Bishop of Fanarion Agathangelos, the aim of this book is to project the lives of the Saints as models for man's relations and stance towards God, and to also acquaint us with the history and the civilization, and the scientific-historical view on the "translation" of the holy relics of the Saints of the Eastern Orthodox Church to Venice-Italy during the Byzantine period, and especially during the sacking of Constantinople by the Franks in 1204 A.D.
This book contains in full the Biographies and the «historical adventures" of the holy relics of 36 Saints, Martyrs and Blessed Fathers of our Church.
