Tribute to the Outreach Mission Week
The Outreach Mission Week is held every year during the 2nd Week of Great Lent by the Holy Metropolises throughout Greece. In order to make the events surrounding the Outreach Mission Week known to all, Apostoliki Diakonia of the Church of Greece sends out every year over 10,000 posters and 150,000 bookmarks. On the Sunday of the Orthodoxy, which marks the commencement of the Outreach Mission Week, the faithful throughout the country are called upon to contribute their mite to the collection tray so that the message of the Gospel may be spread to all peoples around the world. The contributions of the faithful are dispatched by the Holy Metropolises to Apostoliki Diakonia. They are then forwarded to the outreach missions abroad to cover the financial needs the individual missions have and, more importantly, to cover the salaries of indigenous clerics. Within the framework of ecclesiastical solidarity, Apostoliki Diakonia is the one to undertake the task of organizing the Week's events to strengthen the Outreach Mission's work proffered to neophyte peoples at the far reaches of the word. During the last decade, by the Grace of God and thanks to the sensitivity of the faithful, the Outreach Mission's financial support by Apostoliki Diakonia exceeded the amount of seven million euros (7,000,000 €).
Within the tribute posted on our website, apart from the introductory texts on the Outreach Mission ' s theology, website visitors will be able to read texts that are applicable to all Catechism levels so that children attending catechetical gatherings, and Orthodox Christians in general may be taught the theological meaning of missionary work.
