ΑΓΙΑ ΒΑΡΒΑΡΑ  

ΔΕΛΤΙΟ ΤΥΠΟΥ

Το ιερό λείψανο της Αγίας Μεγαλομάρτυρος Βαρβάρας, που για πρώτη φορά εδώ και 1000 χρόνια μεταφέρεται σε Ορθόδοξη χώρα, υποδέχεται την ερχόμενη Κυριακή 10 Μαΐου στις 18:30 η Αποστολική Διακονία της Εκκλησίας της Ελλάδος.

Το ιερό λείψανο που φυλάσσεται τους τελευταίους δέκα αιώνες στην Ιταλία, έρχεται με τη συγκατάθεση του Ρωμαιοκαθολικού Πατριάρχη της Βενετίας και του Βατικανού για 15 ημέρες στην Αποστολική Διακονία της Εκκλησίας της Ελλάδος, ως ευλογία με αφορμή την έναρξη των εορτασμών για τα 80 χρόνια από της ιδρύσεως της.

Η υποδοχή του ιερού σκηνώματος θα γίνει από τον Μακαριώτατο Αρχιεπίσκοπο Αθηνών και Πάσης Ελλάδος κ. κ. Ιερώνυμο στον Ιερό Ναό Αγίας Βαρβάρας στον ομώνυμο Δήμο της Αττικής κοντά στο Αιγάλεω. Το ιερό σκήνωμα θα μεταφερθεί πάνω σε κιλλίβαντα πυροβόλου όπλου, ενώ θα αποδοθούν τιμές από την Πολιτεία και το Στράτευμα, αφού η Αγία είναι η προστάτιδα του Πυροβολικού.

Κατά τη διάρκεια των 15 ημερών θα λειτουργήσει παράπλευρα του Ιερού Ναού δράση για τη συγκέντρωση φαρμάκων και υγειονομικού υλικού, ενημέρωση για θέματα οικογένειας και πρόληψης των λοιμωδών νοσημάτων και έκθεση βιβλίου των εκδόσεων της Αποστολικής Διακονίας της Εκκλησίας της Ελλάδος (09.00-13.00, 16.00-20.00)

ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑ ΥΠΟΔΟΧΗΣ

Το ιερό λείψανο θα μεταφερθεί στην Αθήνα από την Βενετία αεροπορικώς. Θα προηγηθεί τελετή παραδόσεώς του στην ελληνική αντιπροσωπεία στη βασιλική του Αγίου Μάρκου. Στο αεροδρόμιο «Ελευθέριος Βενιζέλος» ο Σεβασμιώτατος Μητροπολίτης Μεσογαίας και Λαυρεωτικής κ. Νικόλαος θα είναι ο πρώτος που θα υποδεχθεί την Αγία επί ελληνικού εδάφους. Στη συνέχεια θα σχηματιστεί αυτοκινητοπομπή, η οποία θα κατευθυνθεί στην περιοχή της Αγίας Βαρβάρας. Εκεί, στην συμβολή της Ιεράς Οδού και Ελευθερίου Βενιζέλου (ύψος Praktiker) ο Σεβασμιώτατος Μητροπολίτης Νικαίας κ. Αλέξιος θα υποδεχθεί επικεφαλής του ιερού Κλήρου και του ευσεβούς λαού το ιερό σκήνωμα, το οποίο θα τοποθετηθεί στον κιλλίβαντα. Θα ακολουθήσει λιτανευτική πομπή μέχρι τον Ιερό Ναό της Αγίας Βαρβάρας όπου ο Μακαριώτατος Αρχιεπίσκοπος Αθηνών και Πάσης Ελλάδος κ.κ. Ιερώνυμος θα παραλάβει το ιερό λείψανο για να μεταφερθεί εντός του ιερού Ναού όπου θα τελεσθεί Δοξολογία παρουσία των Πολιτειακών, Πολιτικών και Στρατιωτικών αρχών, εκπροσώπων ξένων διπλωματικών αντιπροσωπειών και άλλων φορέων.

ΠΛΗΡΟΦΟΡΙΕΣ:

  • Ο Ιερός Ναός Αγίας Βαρβάρας βρίσκεται στον ομώνυμο Δήμο της Αττικής, οδός Ελευθερίου Βενιζέλου 40. (χάρτης)
  • Το ιερό λείψανο θα παραμείνει στην Αθήνα μέχρι και την Κυριακή 24 Μαΐου οπότε θα αναχωρήσει από τον Πειραιά με πλοίο του ελληνικού Πολεμικού Ναυτικού.
  • Ο Ι.Ν. της Αγίας Βαρβάρας θα είναι ανοικτός καθημερινά από τις 07:00π.μ. έως και τις 21.00.
  • Κατά την παραμονή του ιερού λειψάνου στην Αθήνα, θα πραγματοποιηθεί μια και μόνη μεταφορά του στο Αντικαρκινικό Νοσοκομείο «Άγιος Σάββας» ώστε να το προσκυνήσουν οι ασθενείς συμπολίτες μας.
 

ΙΣΤΟΡΙΚΑ ΣΤΟΙΧΕΙΑ:

Α΄. ΙΣΤΟΡΙΚΕΣ ΠΕΡΙΠΕΤΕΙΕΣ ΤΟΥ ΙΕΡΟΥ ΛΕΙΨΑΝΟΥ

Η Αγία Βαρβάρα, κόρη του φανατικού ειδωλολάτρη Διοσκόρου, έζησε τα τέλη του 3ου αιώνα στην Ηλιούπολη της Κοίλης Συρίας. Ο πατέρας της πληροφορήθηκε από τεχνίτες ότι η Αγία ζήτησε να της ανοίξουν τρία παράθυρα στον πύργο όπου ήταν έγκλειστη, στο όνομα της Αγίας Τριάδος και, έτσι, βεβαιώθηκε ότι η κόρη του είχε γίνει Χριστιανή.  
Εξοργίσθηκε τόσο που την κυνήγησε εντός του πύργου με το ξίφος του για να την φονεύσει. Η Αγία κατέφυγε στα όρη, αλλά ο πατέρας της την συνέλαβε και την παρέδωσε στον τοπικό άρχοντα κατηγορώντας την για την πίστη της. Όταν ανακρίθηκε, ομολόγησε με παρρησία την πίστη της στον Χριστό και αρνήθηκε τα είδωλα. Μετά από φρικτά βασανιστήρια, σφαγιάσθηκε από τον ίδιο τον πατέρα της. Το ιερό λείψανο της Αγίας Βαρβάρας έφθασε στη Βενετία το 1003, την περίοδο εξουσίας του Δόγη Πέτρου Β΄ Orseolo, ως δώρο του αυτοκράτορος Βασιλείου Β. Το μετέφερε στη Βενετία από την Κωνσταντινούπολη η Μαρία Αργυροπούλα, θεωρούμενη, όπως συμπεραίνεται από το επίθετο, μία από τις αδελφές του του αυτοκράτορα Ρωμανού Γ΄ του Αργυρού, η οποία είχε παντρευτεί τον γιο του Δόγη, Ιωάννη.

Β΄. ΤΟ ΙΕΡΟ ΠΡΟΣΚΥΝΗΜΑ ΤΗΣ ΑΓΙΑΣ ΒΑΡΒΑΡΑΣ

Ο Ναός, όπως είναι σήμερα, κτίσθηκε το 1904 και είναι ρυθμού τρίκλιτης βασιλικής. Το Άγιο Βήμα του Ναού ονομάζεται και «Εύρεσις», επειδή είναι και ο τόπος όπου βρέθηκε η θαυματουργική εικόνα της Αγίας Βαρβάρας. Ναός στο ίδιο σημείο υπήρχε ήδη από το 1774, όπως αναγράφεται στην τοιχογραφία της Αγίας Βαρβάρας μέσα στο ιερό Βήμα. Η παράδοση που διασώζεται μέχρι σήμερα αναφέρει την ύπαρξη Ναού στον χώρο αυτό πλέον των 1000 ετών, συγχρόνου της Μονής Δαφνίου. Η θαυματουργή εικόνα της Αγίας Βαρβάρας υποδείχθηκε με όραμα πριν 100 και πλέον χρόνια σε κάποιο βοσκό και την βρήκαν δυό γυναίκες από τον Πειραιά. Σήμερα στο ιερό Προσκύνημα σώζονται, -στην Εύρεση- τοιχογραφίες και -στον κυρίως ναό- αγιογραφίες του μεγάλου αγιογράφου Φώτη Κόντογλου, που έχουν συντηρηθεί.

Γ΄. Η ΑΠΟΣΤΟΛΙΚΗ ΔΙΑΚΟΝΙΑ ΤΗΣ ΕΚΚΛΗΣΙΑΣ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΟΣ

Ο ιεραποστολικός Οργανισμός της Αποστολικής Διακονίας της Εκκλησίας της Ελλάδος ιδρύθηκε το 1936. Επί 79 συναπτά έτη:

  • ασκεί φιλόπονα ιεραποστολικό, κατηχητικό και μορφωτικό έργο στην πατρίδα μας, στον Ελληνισμό της διασποράς και στις ιεραποστολικές Εκκλησίες της Αφρικής και της Ασίας, φροντίζοντας για τη μισθοδοσία 600 ιθαγενών κληρικών, την ανέγερση και εξοπλισμό ναών, σχολείων και νοσοκομειακών μονάδων, έκδοση και μετάφραση βιβλίων,

  • εμπλουτίζει καθημερινά την Ιστοσελίδα της στο Διαδίκτυο, διαθέτοντας την ψηφιακή βιβλιοθήκη «Πορφυρογέννητος»και το ψηφιακό αποθετήριο εκκλησιαστικής κληρονομιάς «Ιουστινιανός»,
  • εκδίδει βιβλία ποιμαντικού, θεολογικού, ιεραποστολικού, κατηχητικού, ιστορικού, βιβλικού, πατερικού, πολιτιστικού περιεχομένου,
  • οργανώνει πολιτιστικά και ευρωπαϊκά προγράμματα διδασκαλίας της Νεοελληνικής Γλώσσας σε Πανεπιστήμιο της Ρώμης και στην Αθήνα,
  • εμπλουτίζει την ευρωπαϊκή πολιτιστική ψηφιακή βιβλιοθήκη Europeana,
  • συμμετέχει σε διάφορα πολιτιστικά ευρωπαϊκά προγράμματα και στο «Δίκτυο αλληλεγγύης»,
  • χορηγεί υποτροφίες και λειτουργεί Φοιτητικό Οικοτροφείο για 60 ημεδαπούς και αλλοδαπούς φοιτητές.

PRESS RELEASE

Apostoliki Diakonia of the Church of Greece, welcomes the Holy relics of St. Great Martyr Barbara, which for the first time in a thousand years ( 1000) are transferred in an Orthodox country. The ceremony will take place this coming Sunday, May the 10th at 18:30.

The Holy relic of the Saint which is kept in Italy, comes with the consent of the Roman Catholic Patriarch of Venice together with the Vatican permission, for fifteen ( 15 ) days in the Apostolic Diakonia of the Church of Greece, as a benediction on the occasion of the opening of the celebrations for the 80 years since the establishment of the organization.
The reception of the Holy relic will be made by His Beatidude the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Mr. Ieronymos II, in the church of St. Barbara in the homonymous M unicipality of Athens near Egaleo. The sacred relics will be transferred on a military canon corbel and will be honored with all the appropriate honors by the State and the Military authorities, since the Saint is also the Patron Saint of the Artilery.

During the fifteen (15) days that the occasion will take place, right next to the church of St. Barbara, a frame of actions will took place A gathering of pharmaceutical and hygiene products which they will be then distrubuted to the Greek Medical Council and the Social Medical Offices. A briefing by volunteeers and professionals regarding matters of family care and the prevention of the infectious diseases as well as information about the terrible problem of drug addictios. A book exhibition of the various issues of the Organization of Apostoliki Diakonia of the Church of Greece will take place also. Working hours: 09.00-13.00-16.00-20.00).

RECEPTION PROGRAMME

The Holy relic will be transferred to Athens from Venice by airplane. Before the transportation to the Greek delegation, a consignment ceremony will take place in front of the Saint Marc Basilica.At the Athens Intenrnational Airport " Elefth.Venizelos ," the Metropolitan of Mesogaias and Lavreotikis Mr. Nikolaos will be the first which will welcome the Saint on the Greek grounds.

After the reception, a convoy will be directed to Saint Barbara district. On the junction of the streets, Ieras Odou and Eleftheriou Venizelou (where the Praktiker store is), the Metropolotan of Nikeas , Mr. Alexios , will take over the lead of the Holy relic which will be superimposed over the top of the canon corbel, together with His parish clergy and faithoul people.

A processional marching will follow up to the Holy temple of Saint Barbara, where His Beatitude, the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Mr. Ieronymos B,' will receive the Holy relic in order to transport it inside the church where a Doxology will take place with the presence of Members of the State, Members of the Political environmnent and High ranked Members of the Army as well as foreign Diplomatic deputies, and other commissions.

1.The Holy church of Saint Barbara is sited at the Municipality of Saint Barbara, 40 Eleftheriou Venizelou Str , 123 51, Saint Barbara.

2.The Holy relic will remain in Athens until Sunday 24rth of May, which afterwards will depart by a Greek See Army boat.

3. The Holy church of St. Barbara will remain open daily from 07.00-21.00

4. During the staying of the Holy relic in Athens, it will be transferred to only once to the: "Saint Savvas ", Hospital, in order for the impatient and the people working to it be able to receive Her blessings.

 

HISTORICAL ESSENTIALS

A. The life of Saint Barbara

The Holy Great Martyr Barbara lived and suffered during the reign of the emperor Maximian (305-311). Her father, the pagan Dioscorus , was a rich and illustrious man in the Syrian city of Heliopolis. Seeing Barbara's extraordinary beauty, Dioscorus decided to hide her from the eyes of strangers. Therefore, he built a tower for Barbara. The Saint ordered the workers prepared to put two windows on the south side. But Barbara, taking advantage of her father's absence, asked them to make a third window, thereby forming a Trinity of light. Dioscorus beat his daughter terribly, and then placed her under guard and tried to wear her down with hunger. Finally he handed her over to the prefect of the city. The martyr was tortured for a long time by the crowd. In 1003 the Holy relic of the Saint were transferred to Venice under the reign of the Doge Pietro II Orseolo, as a present from the Emperor Basil II.

The Holy relics were transferred from Constantinople to Venice from Maria Argyripoula , which from her surname she is considered to be one of the sisters of the Emperor Romaνos III Argyros , who had married the son of the Doge Ioanni .

B. The Holy church of St. Barbara

The Temple as we see it today was built in 1904, and its arch rhythm is that of a three- naved basilica. The central nave honors the name of Saint Barbara. The Holy Sanctuary of the Temple is also named DISCOVERY («EVRESIS»), as it denotes the exact spot where the miraculous icon of St. Barbara was discovered. The only authentic historical information that we have on the existence of a Temple is the year «1774» that is clearly inscribed on the mural icon of St Barbara, inside the Holy Sanctuary.

The tiny church that existed in the location that the present Church now stands was practically lost, on account of its abandonment for so many years. It had been buried under 80 cm of earth and stones, and was being used as a sheep pen. This conclusion was reached, by observing the extent of the damages to the murals. This also explains the differing depth of the central nave of the present Temple.

C. The Apostoliki Diakonia of the Church of Greece

The Organization of the Apostoliki Diakonia of the Church of Greece m, was founded in 1936. For 76 consecutive years has the following activities:
