SEMINAR:
LEARNING THE GREEK SIGN LANGUAGE

The LEARNING OF THE GREEK SIGN LANGUAGE SEMINAR falls within the scope of the activities of the Organization of Apostoliki Diakonia , activities implemented by the Grace of God and thanks to the fervent zeal of our collaborators . It aims at training the Clerics, Catechists, and Collaborators contributing to our Church's pastoral work so that they, who are in possession of the divine gift of hearing, may be able to communicate with those who, although deprived of that gift, have acquired through Divine Providence a different way of expression and communication. The seminar entails a two-year study course.

Registration :

Registration for the year 2013-2014 will take place October 10 to October 17, during the Seminar ' s hours of operation.

Hours of Operation :

Classes are conducted on a Thursday, once a fortnight.
1st Year: 15:30 to 17:00 hours ( Section A ); and
17:00 to 18:30 hours (Section B).

2nd Year: 18:30 to 19:50 hours

Training Course: 19:50 to 21:00 hours

Commencement of Classes:

Classes will commence on Thursday, October 10, 2013.

Chart of Operation:

The Seminar's two-year study program entails the following thematic segments per year:

1st Year: First-year students learn the basics of Sign Language. Those rudiments, together with the components of the Greek Sign Language, are first elaborated on theoretically through the Greek Sign Language's vocabulary depicted in sketches and then practically by means of hand shapes.

2nd Year: Second - year students acquire the basics of Sign Language as well as knowledge directly linked to the Church' s Catechesis. Both description and analysis of the basic elements of catechetical didactics are conveyed through a certain basic sign language vocabulary aided by hand shapes.

Training Seminar: The training seminar offers knowledge exclusively and directly linked to the Church' s catechetical didactics.
